Default noob question - Of Enchantment

I know I should know this, but what's so great about the "of enchanting" mod. I guess my first question is what's an enchantment? For example, if I'm a warrior and I stick a 20% enchanting on my axe - does that mean all time based spells cast on me last 20% longer. For example, when a monk heals me with healing breeze, it lasts 20% longer thus giving me an additional 20% health for the same mana cost?

OR, is it for the caster only? In other words, a mesmer casts conjure phantasm, and HIS cast spell lasts 20% longer than normal.

I'm just confused why the 40% axe bug was such a big deal...

Hi,

its personal, and only adds to the enchantment length of spells that you cast.

And an enchantment would be any time based spell?

an enchantment is an enchantment. It's not a Stance.

Only a time based enchantment would benefit from +20% longer enchants of course

No, an enchantment is any spell labelled "enchantment".

go here:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/skill.php

And select a caster class, then sort by skilltype - the enchantments have skill type "Enchantment".

It should also be noted that everything is a skill, and then subcategorized from there.

so even though something is an enchantment, hex, signet, whatever it is still also classified as a skill. If a mesmer used blackout( For 2-6 seconds, all of touched target foe's skills are disabled, and all of your skills are disabled for 5 seconds.) it would wipe out your whole bar, not just the things that have the label "skill" because everything on your bar is a skill.
